Recently, Sony became aware of a potential quality issue affecting certain VAIO® Notebook Computers equipped with Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Protection and certain administrative software, such as antivirus programs.

The issue involves the possible loss of data when the HDD Protection feature engages and parks the hard disk drive heads while a program is running. This has occurred when the HDD Protection settings have been set to Medium or High. This locks the hard disk drive, and currently the computer must be shutdown and restarted to return to normal operation.

To improve the reliability and performance of your computer, we recommend you download and install this VAIO HDD Protection software update (Version 1.2.00.10280).

This update also addresses SmartWi™ technology compatibility issues and improves the overall stability of the HDD Protection software.
